Why choose a Peugeot 308?

Firstly, it looks great! Following a facelift in 2014, it now includes stylish alloy wheels, chrome body touches, and smart LED lights. Its claw-style tail lights which are constantly illuminated also add to its really eye-catching design and with a wide range of petrol and Euro 6-compliant diesel engines to choose from, the Peugeot 308 is a great choice for any driver!

So, what do you actually get with a used Peugeot 308?

With a pleasing choice of trim levels, even the entry-level model has LED daytime running lights, air conditioning, cruise control, a DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity as standard, whilst range-topping GT trim is positively plush.

Not only does the Peugeot 308 look very stylish on the outside, but it also looks pretty smart on the inside too. In addition to this, it also has a large boot, which can come in very handy if you’re on the lookout for a decent sized family car on a budget as used Peugeot 308s are very competitively priced.

What do you get in terms of performance?

The Peugeot 308 is comfortable and great to drive too. It has a great range of trims levels and petrol and Euro 6-compliant diesel engines to choose from.

The petrol engines range from 81nhp (1.2 litre three-cylinder unit) to 108bhp (1.2 litre turbocharged three-cylinder) to a 203bhp 1.6 litre turbocharged.

The diesel engines include 99bhp and 118bhp 1.6 litre or 2.0 litre HDi 148bhp and 178bhp.

And what about running costs?

It probably comes as no surprise that the diesel-engines are the most economical.

Go for the 1.6 BlueHDi 120 engine in Active trim, and it is claimed that the fuel consumption is a staggering 91.1mpg. However, choose the Allure trim and it drops to 88.3mpg, while the other diesel variants all record figures in the 70mpgs.
Opt for a petrol engine and the 1.2 Puretech 110 in Active trim will return a claimed average of 70.6mpg, which is excellent. The other petrol engines are recording figures in the 60mpgs, with the exception of the sporting 1.6-litre GT and GTi variants.

Insurance groups range from 14 right up to 36 for the GTi hot hatch, with most sitting within the 17 to 23 range.
