Renault is well known for revolutionary car design and a serious contribution to motor racing, consisting of a long standing succession of wins.
Renault was founded in 1899 which was when the company made their first car and also embarked in motor racing. After winning the first ever Grand Prix motor racing event in 1906 Renault continued to do well and in 1946 they also won Le Mans Hours, the Mille Miglia races and the Monte Carlo Rally.
Throughout the 70’s the R4,R5, R6, R12 and the R16 maintained Renaults production. During the 80s Renault produced some interesting cars like the Alliance GIA and the Fuego. The 90’s saw a succession of car designs success for Renault with the Twingo, Lauguna and the Megane being launched. In fact, The Megane was the first car to ever to achieve a 4 star EuroNCAP rating, the highest ever at the time.
Also in 1990 Renault launched the Clio supermini, designed as an eventual replacement for the Renault 5. The Clio was the first new model of a generation which saw the numeric models replaced by new cars with traditional nameplates. It set supermini benchmarks for build quality, comfort and space, and Renault was voted European Car of the Year.
Today Renault continues to dominate the market with their comfortable yet affordable cars. They have a wide portfolio which provides a Renault style for everyone, from the small but perfectly formed Clio, through to the family sized Laguna, Megane and Modus cars and not forgetting the people carriers Scenic and Espace.
