Am I eligible for cover

You will be eligible for 5 Star Warranty Policy provided:

  • The Vehicle You are purchasing must not exceed 5 years old and must not exceed 75,000 miles, at the Purchase Date of the Policy and;
  • You must also be a UK resident.

Benefits and significant features of the Policy

This 5 Star Warranty Policy is designed specifically to cover the cost of repairing or replacing Components of Your Vehicle which suffers Mechanical or Electrical Breakdown during the Period of Insurance occurring within the Territorial Limits.

The Policy also covers:

Recovery

Recovery to the nearest dealer in the Territorial Limits, in the event of a claim for Mechanical or Electrical Breakdown.

Car Hire

This Policy will cover up to 7 days car hire at £35.00 including VAT per day if the I.C.M.E. repair time for a Valid Claim exceeds 8 hours. (The cost of car hire will not be covered under this Policy if You are making a claim under the emergency accommodation section of this Policy for the same Valid Claim).

Emergency Accommodation

This Policy will cover emergency accommodation up to a total maximum cost of £100 including VAT. (The cost of emergency accommodation will not be covered under this Policy if You are making a claim under the car hire section of this Policy for the same Valid Claim).

There is no limit to the number of Valid Claims that can be made under this Policy however the maximum amount payable in total is the Purchase Price of the Vehicle. If the total Valid Claims reach the Purchase Price of the Vehicle all cover under the Policy will expire.

If You sell Your Vehicle to a new private owner, You may transfer the benefits of this Policy subject to the Terms and Conditions specified .

Significant and unusual conditions and exclusions

The below is only a brief summary and a selection of the Conditions and Exclusions of Your Policy.

  • You must comply fully with the Terms and Conditions of this Policy. Failure to do so could mean the Insurer has no liability for a claim
  • You must have Your Vehicle serviced in accordance with the guidelines set out by the manufacturer. These should be detailed in Your Vehicle handbook or You can ask the Supplying Dealer when You buy Your Vehicle
  • Repairs must not commence until the Administrator has issued an Authority Number to the repairer The Insurer may ask You to pay a proportion of the repair bill if a repair to the Vehicle means You have directly gained in excess of the Benefit/Betterment provided by this Policy
  • This Policy is not renewable
  • The recovery benefit only applies where Your Vehicle is located where a recovery truck can gain good access and the Vehicle must not be partly or completely buried in snow, mud, sand or water
  • Unless You cancel the Policy within 14 days from the Purchase Date of the Policy You will not be entitled to any refund of Premium thereafter

Period of Insurance

Cover under Your 5 Star Warranty Policy means the period from the Policy Start Date until the earliest of the following dates:

  • a) the end of the Period of Cover as shown on Your 5 Star Warranty Certificate or
  • b) the date on which the Vehicle is subject to a total loss, or
  • c) the date the accumulated Valid Claims cost exceeds the Purchase Price of the Vehicle or
  • d) cancellation of the Policy.

Please note that this 5 Star Warranty Policy cannot be renewed.

No Benefit will be payable under this Policy in the event:

  • This Policy will not cover any damage or loss that can be claimed under any other insurance or warranty
  • This Policy will not cover any vehicle that has been modified or altered from manufacturer’s specifications
  • This Policy will not cover any damage to parts not specifically covered by the Policy (Exclusion No.4).
  • This Policy will not cover any consequential damage to components covered by the Policy, if they have been damaged by the failure of a Component that is not covered by the Policy (Exclusion No. 15).
  • This Policy will not cover any Mechanical or Electrical Breakdown resulting from the following circumstances:
    • wear and tear;
    • accidental or malicious damage;
    • overheating, frost, corrosion, flooding, impact, fire, abuse or neglect;
    • a defect which existed prior to the Policy taking effect;
    • lack of coolant, lubricant or hydraulic fluids;
    • an incorrect grade of lubricants, fuel, coolant or hydraulic fluids;
    • ingress of foreign matter into fuel, lubricants or cooling system;
    • gradual deterioration or failure of parts which have reached the end of their effective working lives.
  • This Policy will not cover the cost of car hire if You are making a claim under emergency accommodation section of this Policy
  • This Policy will not cover the cost of emergency accommodation if You are making a claim under Car Hire section of this Policy.

Your right to cancel

You have a right to cancel this 5 Star Warranty Policy provided You inform the Administrator within 14 days from the Purchase Date of the Policy. Unless You cancel the Policy within 14 days from the Purchase Date of the Policy You will not be entitled to any refund of Premium thereafter.

Should You wish to use this option please write, returning the Certificate and the Terms and Conditions to: Abraxas Insurance Administration Services Ltd, 9 Blenheim Court, Beaufort Park, Almondsbury, Bristol BS32 4NE.

A full refund of any Premiums paid will be given provided no claims are known or reported.

Customer Care information

In the unlikely event of a dispute occurring regarding this Policy You should, in the first instance, write to the Administrator, Abraxas Insurance Administration Services Ltd who will try and resolve the problem. Should You still remain dissatisfied You may then write to the Customer Care Manager, Mapfre Asistencia Compañia Internacional de Seguros y Reaseguros SA, who will provide full details of its complaints procedure and of any right You may have to refer a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. This procedure is in addition to Your legal rights as a consumer.

Mapfre Asistencia is covered under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. This provides compensation in case any of its members are unable, in specified circumstances, to meet any valid claims under their policies. The first £2,000 of a claim is protected in full. Above this threshold, 90% of the remainder of the claim will be met (100% if the insurance is legally compulsory).

Compensation is only available to commercial customers in limited circumstances. Further information can be obtained from the Insurer, or from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme at the following address:
