AvailableCar set an all-time record recently when customer, Tommy DiGeronimo traveled over 3000 miles from his hometown Lunenburg Massachusetts, for his new MG, which will be the first of its kind in the USA since 1980.

Tommy explains: “When the MG Rover Group ceased production last year I immediately thought of my favourite car the MG. I immediately wanted to get my hands on, what I would class as one of the UK's most historically significant vehicles. It has been pretty hard getting hold of one but after a lot of organising and traveling, AvailableCar got me the vehicle I have dreamed of for so long. I have received great service from the whole team and I am delighted to say I shall very soon be driving my own MGTF in the USA.”

Tommy, a successful businessman, a father of two and husband to Lisa, is a MG enthusiast and back in the summer of 1976 he bought his first British racing green MGB. Since then Tommy has had numerous vehicles but his love for the well-known sports car never left.

He thought the production of the MG had stopped but to his delight he spotted the MG Octagon whilst on vacation in Bermuda. Tommy said: “The next day, when I arrived back in my office I called the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and asked if they had a MG dealership on the Island. They gave me the name of the dealer and I called to ask if I could buy one in the UK and he said of course, however getting the vehicle to the US could be a problem because the vehicle is a non-conforming vehicle.

I did try to get the vehicle imported but I had no luck; I called the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), and they said they would not allow me to import the vehicle. The NHTSA does allow a non-conforming vehicle in the USA if it is technologically or historically significant, which unfortunately at the time, the MG was not.”

Not to be defeated Tommy continued searching for his MG on-line and came across the AvailableCar website, AvailableCAR.COM which showcases thousands of vehicles ranging from £2,999 through to £23,999. All vehicle information on the site comes from a live database, which records every car bought in or sold, so it is constantly up-to-date for the whole buying public. Every vehicle is listed with detailed information and images so you can find out everything you need to know without needing to visit the store, which was ideal for Tommy being more than 3000 miles away!

After a short time browsing Tommy discovered that the site showed an MG in exactly the specification he required. After a few simple phone conversations Tommy managed to find out all the information he needed and set a date to travel over to the UK.

Since finalising all the details, Tommy has called the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), to apply for permission and luckily it was good news. Tommy continues: “My wife Lisa and I are very excited about bringing this vehicle to the USA. We have fond memories of driving around in my MG at college and can't wait till it gets shipped over.
