Your company vehicle should be smoke free

On 1st July the UK became ‘Smokefree’ which means any public place is now non-smoking, but did you know that the new ban could actually include your company vehicle as well?
The new law requires vehicles to be smoke-free at all times if they are used:
- to transport members of the public or,
- in the course of paid or voluntary work by more than one person - regardless of whether they are in the vehicle at the same time.
Local councils are responsible for enforcing the new law in England. They are working closely with businesses to help ensure that everyone understands how to comply with the new law.
Smokefree vehicles must display a no-smoking sign in each compartment of the vehicle in which people can be carried. This must show the international no-smoking symbol at least 70mm in diameter.
Company vehicles that are used primarily for private purposes only are not required to be smokefree. But if you are the user of a company vehicle which is used by anybody else from time to time, then the vehicle must automatically become smoke-free by law and your employer must enforce this by taking the necessary precautions.
